A 60-year-old Davidson man died Sunday after the antique tractor he was using to free a vehicle that was stuck in the snow flipped over and crushed him.

Oceana County Sheriff’s Lt. Craig Mast identified the victim as Donald Fremd, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. in the 8300 block of South 48th Avenue in Claybanks Township.

The Fremd family has a summer home in Montague and also owns the land in southern Oceana County where the accident happened, police said.

Mast said Fremd, his son-in-law and grandson were four-wheeling on the property when the pickup truck being used got stuck in the snow out in a field.

Fremd was trying to use a 9N Ford tractor from the 1950s to free the pickup truck when the tractor flipped, Mast said. A chain had been attached to the truck.
