Productivity is the key for being competitive. Productivity means success, success means growth. As large-scale operations farm more land and contractors take on more jobs and customers, they suddenly reach the critical size. However, on the one hand the overall acreage is not large enough as yet to justify the investment in a self-propelled machine, while on the other hand it is already far too large to use the 300hp standard tractor for profitable farming.

The challenge for the CLAAS engineers was as big as the XERION itself. The task was to build a tractor that could do what otherwise was a serious problem for standard 300 HP machines without ballast weights and dual wheels: a tractor that would bring its enormous power to the ground but without damaging the soil.

Bigger contact area.

The TRAC concept visibly sets itself apart by four equallysized and up to 6.7 ft. (2.05 m) diameter wheels. These are the benefits:

• Maximum contact area at adjusted tire pressure

• Reduced wheel slip

• Less compaction

This way it is possible to protect the soil and still operate a machine of a high total weight of up to 40 tons (36,000 kg) (at up to 6 mph (10 km/h)).

Higher permissible overall weight.

Another feature of the TRAC concept is its full frame design, which offers an ideal weight distribution with 57 % on the front axle and 43 % on the rear axle:

In addition, the full frame absorbs substantially higher machine weights. The following total weights are no problem:

• Up to 20 tons (18,000 kg) on the road (depending on national regulations, higher weights are possible with special approval)

• Up to 40 tons (36,000 kg) in the field The net weight is 22,487 lbs. (10,200 kg) without tires. With only some additional ballast on the front axle, XERION provides a substantially higher tractive power than any standard tractor.

Choose between high torque and an even higher torque

The XERION is powered by an engine the brand name of which stands for uncompromised quality and power – Caterpillar. The massive 537 cu. in. (8.8 l) six-cylinder turbo charged and intercooled engine comes in two hp versions.

Two engine versions.

You will move a lot with the XERION and have a lot of fun driving it. This is thanks to the enormous torque of the 537 cu. in. (8.8 l), six-cylinder CAT engine:

• XERION 3300: max. 266 kW/357 HP (SAE) at 1,600 – 1,800 rpm. max. torque: 1,177 ft. lb. (1596 Nm) at 1,400 rpm.

• XERION 3800: max. 285 kW/382 HP (SAE) at 1,800 rpm. max. torque: 1,248 ft. lb. (1,692 Nm) at 1,400 rpm.

Hydraulically actuated and electronically controlled injectors provide optimum injection pressure to help you save fuel.

Optimum aspiration.

The air intake system on XERION is positioned on the cab post, because the air at the top is cleaner than the air at the bottom. The result:

Standard reverse fan.

During normal operation, the angle of the fan blades is automatically adjusted according to the cooling requirements of the engine. To clean the radiator and radiator screen on the go, the fan blades are reversed pneumatically.

ZF offers the most powerful CVT-transmission on the market – the continuously variable and fully reversible ZF Eccom 3.5.

Powerful transmission.

The ZF Eccom 3.5 guarantees an extremely efficient translation of the built-in engine power into muscle power:

• Shifts through 4 driving ranges in both directions of travel without cutting the powerflow

• Reaches 31 mph (50 km/h) whilst operating at a fuelsaving engine speed of 1,700 rpm (1,800 rpm on

XERION 3300)

• An auxiliary output shaft to drive the Power Hydraulic system is available as an option

Direct driveline

The XERION offers a clearly defined and straightforward driveline, which boasts permanent four-wheel drive and copes with the heaviest loads, as for example operating a heavy stump grinder:

• Straight driveline, engine power flows via a short shaft to the gearbox

• Direct power transfer also to the PTO shaft stub

Fully supportive frame.

On conventional tractors, the engine and transmission inevitably have a supportive function due to the chassis construction. The XERION is different. This tractor is fitted with a modular and fully supportive frame. Engine and transmission do not have supportive functions but are mounted on silent blocks:

• Engine speed and gear ratio are selected independently by operating the accelerator pedal and the multifunctional lever

4. HAND THROTTLE MODE

• This mode is activated automatically when setting a constant engine speed

• Ground speed is adjusted by changing the transmission ratio with the accelerator pedal

• Constant pto power, e.g. when mowing with DISCO 8550

• Reduces driver fatigue

More flexibility.

The XERION owes its superior maneuverability to its intelligent four-wheel steering system. As soon as the operator turns the front axle more than 4 degrees, also the rear axle starts turning. Synchronisation is fully automatic and controlled by steering angle sensors.

In addition to standard steering, the XERION offers 6 special steering programs:

1. Four-wheel steering: Both axles steer simultaneously

2. Rear axle offset steering: Rear axle put into offset to stay straight on a side slope

3. Diagonal crab steering: Both axles put into offset to prevent multipass effect

4. Crab steering: Both axles put into offset to facilitate maneuvering

5. Control lever steering: The rear axle can be steered with the control lever

6. Synchronous steering: The center of rotation can be moved alongside the machine’s longitudinal axle to get sole front axle or sole rear axle steering

Additional GPS steering (optional): The GPS PILOT steers the machine automatically. It works with all special steering programs on the XERION.

The hydraulic system provides impressive outputs and convenient control via CEBIS to guarantee that the XERION can handle any job.

Powerful hydraulic system.

Two powerful axial piston pumps are the heart of the load sensing system. One supplies the auxiliary spool valves, the second one other machine functions:

• The first pump supplies the linkage and auxiliary spool valves

• The second pump supplies the steering and brake

• Each pump puts out a max. operating pressure of 2,900 PSI (200 bar) and a max. flow of 50 gal/min (190 l/min)

• 34 gal (130 l) hydraulic oil tank capacity

• Up to 5 double-acting spool valves in the rear, up to 4 in the front

• Time/flow control is infinitely variable through CEBIS

• Max. flow rate of 29 gal/min (110 l/min) per spool valve

• Large available draw-off volume of 21 gal (80 l) The direct connection of external users to the hydraulic oil flow guarantees a permanent high flow rate and high lifting capacities instantly. The break-away connectors ensure quick and leakage free coupling, even if the connectors are pressurized.

The XERION offers the option of a third hydraulic circuit:

• Max. 3,770 PSI (260 bar) operating pressure

• Max. 62 gal/min (235 l/min) oil flow

• Easy engagement through toggle switch The optional power hydraulic system offers the potential of

using the machine in a large range of special applications. For example, in combination with a goose-neck manure tanker it presents a fuel-efficient alternative to the PTO drive system.

Easy-to-operate rear three-point linkage.

The rear the linkage is easily operated from the multifunction lever while the ELC (Electronic Lift Control) is conveniently set on the CEBIS system. Both multifunction lever and CEBIS provide enhanced operator comfort:

• Max. lifting capacity of 25,800 lbs. (11,700 kg)

• Cat III or IV are possible

• External control on the rear fender for easy attachment of implements

• Hydraulic stabilizers (optional)

• Transport suspension for safe and comfortable road transport

Comfortable front linkage.

The front linkage on XERION is also operated from the multifunction lever:

• Maximum lifting capacity of 18,075 lbs. (8,200 kg)

• External operation on lower engine hood

The XERION provides enormous power. The front threepoint linkage lifts a max. of 18,075 lbs. (8,200 kg) and the rear three-point linkage a max. of 25,800 lbs. (11,700 kg). A special force progression ensures that the full lifting power is available as soon as the rear three-point linkage starts raising.

High-output rear PTO.

The rear PTO is driven by a straight driveline to ensure a constantly high performance in heavy applications such as wood chipping.

Wide variety of hitch options.

XERION gives you the choice of 8 different hitch options:

• Rear ball hitch 4.3 in. (110 mm) for up to 33,000 lbs (15 t) tongue load

• Drawbar, short/long Available trailer brake systems include air or hydraulic brake systems.

The XERION net weight is about 22,487 lbs. (10,200 kg) (without tires). The XERION can be ballasted up to 79,300 lbs. (36,000 kg) to become suitable for such applications as silage packing. This way now you can save the wheel loader on the pit, and have yet another application for your XERION.

This is where you benefit from the TRAC concept. The ideal weight distribution, the large tire contact area, and, if necessary, the high possible total weight, all that translates into superior traction:

A flexible tractor concept should not only include the potential to use it in a wide range of applications, but it should also be so easy to operate, that everybody gets used to it very quickly. The XERION multifunction control lever allows operators to control up 16 machine functions at the push of a button.
