PTO engaging backwards

September 2nd, 2010 | Tags:

I have a Professional model 2-wheel and recently broke a part that attaches to the PTO lever. The part that broke is the round disk that attaches to the shipper shaft and has a pin at the top that interlocks with the PTO lever.

I replaced the round disk with one from a 5000 series machine and it seems to work fine except it engages when you push rather than pull the PTO handle.

Do you think this will be OK to run for a while until I can replace the disk with the correct one?

Thanks.

i figured somebody who knew something about this would be all over it

but until then I offer my opinion that it is fine to run with it

I would also guess that you have managed to put it on so that it works backward – not that it is made differently from one which works forward- but that is an untutored guess

when you are messing around with that stuff be careful not to drop the trunion block off the dog gear – i use thick grease to keep it in place

I can’t see that it would hurt anything to use it that way. Are you sure that the round disk that attaches to the shipper shaft is indexed correctly? There should be a flat on the shipper shaft that the set screw on the disk should meet.
