The History of NEW HOLLAND TRACTORS
The New Holland Company is part of CNH Global Company, which is part of Fiat. The company makes New Holland tractors and combine harvesters, the most popular combine harvester being the CR960. It also makes balers, the most popular being the Quad baler. The New Holland Company sells tractors and other agricultural machinery all around the world.
A man called Abram Zimmerman started New Holland in 1895 in a blacksmiths shop. Zimmerman was part of a large family; he was the third oldest child out of seven.
Abram Zimmerman invented a wide range of farm machinery and tools. His best invention was a hit and miss engine that was freeze-proof and ran on gasoline. The engine was available in many different sizes of horsepower. The gasoline engines were able to power a lot of different machinery including wood saws and livestock cobs. The engines were also able to power things in the house, including butter churns and washing machines.
The New Holland Company was taken over by the Sperry Corporation in 1947 and then the company became known as Sperry New Holland. In 1964 the company bought a large share in Claeys of Belgium, this is a company that specialises in combine harvesters.
Up until 1974 the New Holland Company produced lawn equipment and then they sold this section of the business to Ariens. The Ford Company purchased the New Holland Company and then later sold a share of the company to Fiat, Fiat then went on to purchase the whole of the New Holland Company. The Fiat and New Holland Company is a versatile tractor company, which in 1998, went on to purchase the Orenstein and Koppel Company. The Orenstein and Koppel Company is a construction company. In 1998 the North America branch of Orenstein and Koppel was sold to Terex.
