John Deere, an American, set-up Deere and Company, which produced the John Deere tractors. The Dain All-Wheel Drive tractor was the most popular and successful tractor. Many people now collect antique John Deere tractors.

In 1918 the Deere & Company purchased the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company, which was the company that produced the Waterloo Boy tractors all those years before. In 1914 the R model was produced by the Waterloo Company. There were over eight thousand R models built by the company. The R model has an engine size of twenty-five horsepower and it was four hundred and sixty five cubic inches in size.

In 1917 the N model replaced the R model. The N model had the same size of engine and the same amount of horsepower but it had a two-speed transmission unlike the R model, which only had a one-speed transmission.

The John Deere Company has invented a vast number of tractors over the years and in the seventies they invented over thirty-six new models, which ranged in size from twenty-two horsepower engine up to a two hundred and seventy five horsepower engine. Some of the R models and the N models became known as Overtime models in England.

The Deere and Company sold tractors under the Waterloo Boy name until 1923. The first tractors to carry the John Deere name were produced in 1918.

In 1923 despite farming going through a bad time because of problems with the economy the John Deere Company introduced the D model tractors. Between the 1st of March 1923 and the 3rd July 1953 the D model was produced. The D model was popular because it had a two-cylinder engine. Already by 1925 the D model was not able to fulfil the requirements of their customers because the steel wheels made the tractors unsuitable for using on surfaces that were hard and they were far too slow to take on the road safely.

In 1927 the John Deere company produced the C model tractor which was also known as the GP tractor. The C tractor had an engine size of three hundred and tweleve cubic inches which was able to give out a horsepower of twenty and had a three speed transmission.
