JOHN DEERE ANNOUNCES OTTUMWA RECALL

Deere & Company asserted today that the majority of producing workers who had been on layoff at the John Deere Ottumwa Works are being recalled.

Deere said 452 producing workers will be recalled beginning November 30th with all of those staff expected to be back to work before the company’s yearly holiday shutdown, which starts December 23rd.

The company expounded workers will start production of new 2010 models.  78 workers will remain on layoff till market conditions improve enough to want the extra workforce.

Deere had placed the bulk of the producing workforce at Ottumwa on layoff earlier this year to align factory production with market demand. In total, the Ottumwa Works employs approximately 260 waged employees and 720 wage staff, including those that remain on layoff.

The John Deere Ottumwa Works manufactures balers, mower conditioners, windrowers, and pull-type forage harvesters utilized by hay and livestock producers.
