With an estimated weight of around 13,300 pounds, the compact excavator, which is generally hydraulically powered, can be either a wheeled or tracked piece of machinery and generally includes a backfill blade and also a boom swing that is considered to be independent. You may also have noticed that this compact excavator is sometimes called the mini excavator.

The compact excavator or mini excavator is somewhat different to other types of machinery that is considered to be heavy in nature and this is mainly due to it being hydraulically powered and all of the movements are fluid and smooth. The part of the compact excavator that is called the house is the main home for the engine compartment, the operator, the distribution components and also the hydraulic pump. This section of the excavator is attached to the rest of the machine by way of a swing bearing and using the work group, this section is able to rotate on the main frame without meeting any limits due to the distribution valve that is also hydraulic and this supplies oil to all of the main undercarriage sectors.

Compact Excavator – Undercarriage

Generally the undercarriage of a compact excavator is made from steel or rubber tracks with rollers, side sprockets, idlers and also other components and structures. This part of the excavator is also a home to other parts such as the work group and also the house structure.

Compact Excavator – Work Group

This section of the compact excavator that is called the work group contains the attachment for the arm of the dipper, this arm or dipper itself plus the boom. It is attached to the house structure at the front by way of a swinging frame that enables hydraulically powered pivots to manoeuvre it right or left to allow offset digging.

Compact Excavator – Independent Boom Swing

The independent boom swings main purpose is to dig offset around various obstacles and for digging along foundations, other forms and walls and it is also good for getting into narrow spaces that the excavator will not fit into.

Compact Excavator – Backfill Blade

This part of the compact excavator is used for various tasks and these include levelling, backfilling, trenching, and also other work that a dozer would be used for. This blade is also a useful tool for being able to increase the dumping height of the vehicle and this is all dependant on where it is in conjunction with the work group.

Residential properties are just one of the main places that you can expect to see a compact excavator and they are useful for getting into smaller places such as between two homes and because they are smaller than other types of digging machinery, they can fit into most of the smallest spaces.

During the history of a compact excavator, it will have evolved into far more than just an excavating implement and with many of the attachments that can be added to the machine plus the hydraulic power that it offers; you will find that it can complete even the most difficult of tasks with ease.
